Very few things can leave a grown man dumbfounded, unable to speak, and crying. This song is one of them. Whether it be Elton John’s original version for Norma Jean a.k.a. Marilyn Monroe, or the more popular one for Princess Diana, the song melody grips one in the heart and never lets go until one realizes that this life is but temporary, and we’re all but candles in the wind.
We each have our own story of this song. Our family owned a compilation of Elton John songs(Love Songs), and it’s been on top of or audio CD shelf for the past 10 years. If that album were in cassette tape, it would probably sound like hisses and scratches by now after having been played like crazy by my mother and my sisters and me. There was a couple of times this year I’ve considered retiring it and just buy a new one, for fear it might break right when it’s inside our sound system. Seriously. If ever I meet someone who doesn’t like that album, I’d kill them instantly, and sing this song beside their grave.
Ok, so here are the videos I would like to share. The first one’s the original version which Elton John performed live in Australia in 1984. The next one is sang at Princess Diana’s funeral in 1997.
I stay an Elton John music fan, whatever anyone says about him now, and whatever he’s been doing after singing these songs. Period.
Am A great fan too
I’ve been listening to his music since I was a child (my dad was a great fan of him)
I love his music
but…
looks wierd, if I say “The Guy we listen love songs from is actually G@Y
We all want to give our loved ones the best send-off we can. But when someone passes on, we don’t all have the cash required to give them a five-star luxury funeral. In fact, many of us find that funding a funeral is close to impossible, trumnyand worry that we won’t be able to say goodbye to our loved ones in the style in which they were accustomed.
nice…!
i really need to learn this song…
